Beretta's ARX200 chambers 7.62x51mm NATO and scales the company's 5.56mm ARX160 assault rifle up into a designated-marksman and battle-rifle platform, but the numbers defining its career belong to two very different customers. Italy issued the type to its own infantry in modest quantity, while Qatar signed a licensing deal for a production run many times larger than Italy's entire domestic order. Unveiled in 2015 after prototypes toured European trade shows the year before,1 the ARX200 was pitched from the start as an export product as much as a domestic replacement.

Güçlü yönler
  • tool-based cold-hammer-forged barrel swap
  • fully ambidextrous fire controls
  • shares parts and training with the fielded ARX160
  • three-position gas regulator built for suppressed fire
Zayıf yönler
  • lost the ARX160's switchable ejection side
  • little independent test data beyond manufacturer claims
  • no confirmed combat record under any flag

Beretta built the ARX200 around a gas-operated short-stroke piston with a rotating bolt lock-up, the same operating principle used in the ARX160.2 TheFirearmBlog's early coverage is explicit that the two rifles are parallel designs sharing some parts, notably the trigger group, rather than one being a simple caliber conversion of the other.1 Three barrel lengths cover three jobs. A 16 inch (406mm) infantry version supplies Italy's battle-rifle contract, a 20 inch (508mm) marksman version chases match-grade accuracy, and a 12 inch (305mm) short-barrel version was built for Qatar's production line.12

Weight runs from about 4.3 to 4.5 kilograms unloaded, depending on source and build, with Beretta's own product page for the 16 inch model citing the lower end.17 The marksman build is heavier, at roughly 4.8 kilograms.9 Both feed from a 20-round proprietary polymer detachable magazine, though the marksman version's magazine well has also been demonstrated accepting AR-10 and SR25-pattern magazines.9

The ARX-Family Piston System and What 7.62mm Changed

The ARX200 keeps the select-fire gas-piston system, ambidextrous controls, folding telescoping stock, three-position gas regulator (normal, fouled, suppressed) and monolithic top rail with KeyMod forend that define the whole ARX family.2,4 What it dropped is the ARX160's switchable ejection side for left-handed shooters. The ARX200 ejects right only.3

The barrel is cold-hammer-forged and marketed as a tool-based, roughly one-minute field swap, though Modern Firearms describes it instead as requiring special tools and partial disassembly, a real gap between the marketing pitch and a more involved armorer-level process.2 The infantry configuration also mounts Beretta's GLX160 40mm underbarrel grenade launcher.4

The designated-marksman build differs in most of the ways that matter for accuracy. It runs a semi-automatic-only trigger at 2 to 2.3 kilograms pull weight, a 54-slot STANAG 4694 rail, and a tool-free stock adjustable for cheek height, cheek position and length of pull, folding to 820mm for parachute jump loadouts.9 Beretta rates it at roughly 1 MOA with 175-grain match ammunition, reiterated at a March 2023 EnforceTac showing.10 The standard infantry rifle is rated lower, at 1.5 MOA for five shots at 100 meters, though EDR Magazine reports delivered rifles performing closer to 1 MOA in practice.5

▣Çalışma Sistemi6MOD.6

Standard-issue Italian Army rifles mount the Steiner Intelligent Combat Sight, a 6x40 optic integrating a laser rangefinder, inclinometer and ballistic computer, on the Picatinny rail running the length of the receiver.7 Cyclic rate on the infantry version is around 700 rounds per minute, with a claimed effective range near 600 meters against roughly 800 meters for the marksman build.18

  • Etkili Menzil (nokta)600 m

The two builds also differ in side-rail hardware. The infantry rifle keeps KeyMod on its forend, while the marksman build switches to seven M-Lok slots alongside its extended top rail, a small but real accessory-compatibility split between the two configurations.9

A 2012 Dual-Caliber Concept That Became a 2015 Rifle

Beretta's earliest public reporting on the program dates to 2012, a dual-caliber 7.62x51/7.62x39mm project that never reached production in that form.1 The Italian Ministry of Defence allocated roughly €2.5 million toward development in 2014.3 Beretta showed updated prototypes at Enforce Tac 2015 while the Italian Army ran qualification testing, officials flagging a possible eventual requirement of 1,170 rifles.1 The full unveiling followed that September, in fixed-stock and folding-stock versions, both select-fire, with Italy having already ordered 400 rifles for trials.4 Beretta kept the rifle on the show circuit through DSEI London and AAD 2016, marketing it as an export product from its earliest appearances.6

◆ On the Record
01The ARX200 began life in 2012 as a dual-caliber 7.62x51/7.62x39mm concept, an abandoned design path rarely mentioned in current marketing.1

Italy's Squad-Level Contract Next to Qatar's Bindig Megadeal

Italy's Ministry of Defence signed a €2.5 million contract for around 800 rifles fitted with the Steiner sight, meant to give each infantry fire team one 7.62mm rifle to extend engagement range past the 5.56mm ARX160, a rationale Analisi Difesa ties explicitly to Afghanistan.8 Wikipedia's Italian Army equipment list puts the total at 1,170 infantry-configuration rifles plus 130 planned marksman-configuration rifles.7 An early claimed link to Special Operations Forces for the first tranche is analyst speculation rather than confirmed reporting.8

Qatar's order dwarfs that domestic program. In March 2018, Beretta signed a joint-venture agreement with Qatari state-controlled Barzan Holdings to license-produce ARX160 and ARX200 rifles, branded Bindig, in Doha.12 The contract, confirmed at Eurosatory 2018, covers 30,000 12 inch ARX200 rifles plus 10,000 M92 pistols, worth €70 million total, with first locally made rifles expected in 2019.11 No source corroborates deliveries beyond that planning window, so the program reads as ordered and license-produced rather than confirmed fully delivered.13

A separate license agreement with Argentina's Fabricaciones Militares followed in December 2016, meant to build the ARX200 domestically at the Fray Luis Beltran arsenal with export rights attached.14 No confirmed quantity was ever published, and no later reporting shows the arrangement actually producing rifles, so it reads today as an announced but stalled program.14

Taken together, a modest home order next to two much larger licensing bids shows Beretta treating full local production rights as its main competitive lever against FN and HK's more restricted export terms.

04 / Çatışmalar
Bu silahın kayıtlı çatışma verisi henüz girilmedi.

No solid, sourced record of Italian combat use of the ARX200 exists as of current reporting. The rifle was designed with lessons from Italy's Afghanistan deployment explicitly cited as justification, but Italy's main Afghan combat role wound down before the ARX200 entered service in 2015, so this reads as a design rationale rather than a deployment fact. A single October 2022 social-media post claimed to show an ARX200 photographed in Ukraine, alongside a claim that Italy's own forces had recently acquired the type, but no official Italian or Ukrainian statement confirms any transfer, and Italy's documented aid packages to Ukraine emphasize mortars, machine guns and Stinger missiles rather than rifles.19 That sighting should be treated as unconfirmed.

05 / Varyantlar

The battle-rifle configuration runs a 16 inch barrel, select-fire at around 700 rounds per minute, and GLX160 grenade-launcher compatibility, and is the version Italy fields at squad level.4 The designated-marksman configuration trades the 16 inch barrel for a 20 inch match barrel, drops full-auto for a two-stage semi-automatic trigger, and adds the adjustable stock and extended rail described above, shown at World Defense Show 2022 and again at EnforceTac 2023.9

A third, 12 inch short-barrel configuration exists specifically because of the Qatar contract, shown publicly at Eurosatory 2018 alongside the license announcement.11 Beretta's marketing pitches all three configurations to militaries, special forces and what the company calls the Green Army, its term for standard light and mountain infantry, treating precision fire support as a squad-level capability rather than something reserved for dedicated snipers.9

Italy fields the ARX200 as its standard squad-level 7.62mm rifle, with 1,170 infantry-configuration rifles and 130 marksman-configuration rifles carrying the Steiner sight, per Wikipedia's Italian Army equipment listing.7 Qatar has ordered 30,000 short-barrel rifles for its armed forces and other security agencies under the Bindig joint venture, though full delivery has not been independently confirmed beyond the original 2018 to 2019 planning window.12 Argentina announced a license-production agreement in December 2016 through Fabricaciones Militares, intended to replace its aging FAL rifles, but no later reporting confirms rifles were actually produced under that arrangement.14

The ARX200 was also a shortlisted contender, alongside the FN SCAR, CZ Bren 2 and Turkish MPT-76, in Pakistan's mid-2010s rifle trials, though Pakistan ultimately bought Russian AK-103 rifles and built its own indigenous design instead.15,16

07 / MASS Score

Pakistan's rifle trials put the ARX200 up against the FN SCAR-H directly, and cost, not test scores, decided how that contest was framed. FN's SCAR-H was reportedly ruled out on budget grounds where cheaper entrants like the ARX200 and CZ Bren 2 remained competitive, positioning the Beretta rifle as the mid-cost alternative to a premium Western battle rifle rather than a proven performance winner.15 Against the HK417, the two rifles come out roughly level on paper, with comparable accuracy, mounting robustness and reliability, leaving the HK417's much longer combat and market record as its actual edge.2

The CZ Bren 2 BR offers a closer structural parallel to the ARX200's own story than a straight rival comparison would suggest. Both rifles are scaled-up 7.62mm versions of an existing 5.56mm assault rifle from the same manufacturer, the Bren 2 BR enlarged from the CZ Bren 2 the same way the ARX200 grew out of the ARX160, and both competed for the same contracts, including the Pakistan trials, as mid-priced alternatives to FN and HK's more established designs.15

08 / Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

Is the Beretta ARX200 still in service? Yes. The Italian Army fields it as its standard 7.62mm squad rifle, and Qatar has an active licensed-production arrangement for a much larger quantity through the Bindig joint venture.7,12

How does the Beretta ARX200 work? It uses a short-stroke gas-piston system with a rotating bolt lock-up and a three-position gas regulator, firing 7.62x51mm NATO from a 20-round detachable magazine, select-fire in the infantry configuration and semi-automatic-only in the marksman configuration.2,9

What is the difference between the ARX200 and the ARX160? The ARX200 fires the larger 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge against the ARX160's 5.56x45mm, weighs more, and gave up the ARX160's switchable ejection side, while keeping the same gas-piston system and ambidextrous controls.2,3

How much does the Beretta ARX200 cost? No clean per-rifle military price has been published. Italy's roughly 800-rifle, €2.5 million contract implies a bundled figure near €3,100 per rifle with optics included, and Qatar's €70 million deal bundles 30,000 rifles with 10,000 pistols, so neither figure isolates a standalone unit price.5,11

Is the Beretta ARX200 used in Ukraine? A single 2022 social-media post claimed an ARX200 was photographed there, but no official confirmation from Italy or Ukraine has surfaced, and the sighting should be treated as unverified.19
